November 10, 2022

Congratulations to all our winners and a big salute to all the veterans!  This is the first year that many people have been able to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends—isn’t it great! The only problem we have still is the nastiness related to politics.  Let’s all of us set an example and don’t discuss politics at the dinner table—let’s just be joyous.  Next month will be the last drawing for us—I’ll let you know how we finished.

From everyone here, I wish you a wonderful day, and if it doesn’t rain, maybe some of you will be able to get to a parade.  We can celebrate the blessings we have and pray for those who do not share in them, particularly for economic and health reasons.  We are blessed, and in our grace we should thank our benefactor and his mother who, like most mothers, makes sure he does what’s best for us.

Letter Re Closing

My dear Friends of St. Theresa’s School.

We have come to the sad conclusion that the time has come to close down the 1000 Club.  As you old timers know, it has been in existence since the ‘60s and was a brainchild of Fr. Charles Bourke, who was stationed here at the time, and a nurse from the Somerville Hospital whose name has vanished from memory.

Over approximately 55 years in service, we have calculated that over $1,000,000 has been given to the School, and that’s something to be proud of.  We would like to close down at the end of this year after the December drawing to have a kind of smooth finish to the year and the Club.  At that time, except for outstanding checks, any remaining balance in the checking account will be turned over to the School.

But we cannot achieve this goal without your help.  Here’s how we think this could work so that we have enough money to give prizes, pay taxes, and anything that might come up, like needing some more stamps:

YEARLY

  1.  If possible, every person who owes any money for yearly renewals should continue to

pay whatever they would normally pay, that is $50.  As mentioned before, any funds left at the end of December will be turned over to the school.

  1. If you do not feel comfortable with this, then pay $5 for each month until December; for instance, if your paid membership ends in August, send a check for $20—i.e. $5 each for four months.

MONTHLY

Since you presently pay by the month, just continue to do so through December.

By rough calculations, this should take us through the end of December with some funds left over for the school.

This is a sad letter to write to a lot of people who have become friends as well as benefactors.  Many thanks to all of you and stay well.
